The time in 1995 when Chris Farley showed up in Congress as Newt Gingrich

On April 4, 1995, four days after Tommy Boy premiered, Chris Farley crashed a meeting of the House Republican Conference. The SNL star stormed into the meeting in full Gingrich get-up to address the crowd, the real Newt included.

Meet the guy who makes $300/day finding gold and jewels in the sidewalks of Manhattan

There’s a whole lot of people in Manhattan and a whole lot of money to be had, especially in the jewelry district, where urban gold miner Raffi Stepanian claims he makes around $300/day fishing for tiny bits of gold, jewels and platinum in the cracks in the sidewalks.

Watch another video on Raffi here

Google collaborates with Dogfish Head to create Urkontinent Beer

Google’s got their tentacles in more and more things these days, but one unlikely investment is getting into the beer brewing business, using the power and reach of Google to get brewing ideas from people from around the world, combined with Dogfish’s beer-making expertise to make something truly unique.

Dogfish Head founder and president Sam Calagione says the limited edition brew — called Urkontinent — was named after the thinking that the shapes of the continents can be fit together like puzzle pieces. “It’s what Google does every day — take a fractured world of information and put it into something cohesive and whole,” he says.

IHC After Dark: Joi Lansing “Web of Love”, the Scopiotone

In the 1960s, well before MTV, there was a machine called a Scopiotone that was usually found in bars. This machine was a film jukebox that played 16mm films to accompany the music (it’s not you, the film is supposed to be choppy like that), but they weren’t really meant to be seen all the way through. The bright colors and scantily clad women were there to get the attention of guys in the bar to pump more money into the machine.

Check out the trailer for Soul Man, a 70s blaxploitation inspired animated sci-fi film

Here’s a fantastically awesome teaser trailer to a CG animated sci-fi Blaxploitation film called Soul Man. Apparently this trailer is to a full-length feature film being developed by French director Guillaume Ivernel. He’s been working on it for some time now, and there’s no word of a release date yet.

It’s definitely got a cool style to it, though when I think “blaxploitation”, I think of more than just afros— this movie looks like it is seriously lacking space drug dealers dealing space dope in the space neighborhood to space kids.

The Tron lightcycle is (pretty much) real and it was built by Parker Brothers Choppers

“All New Full Scale Electric Tron Lightcycle driving in the daytime as well as night time. This bike has had extensive reworking on the body as well as Lithium Ion batteries and a 96volt electric motor.”

After charging the battery for around 20 minutes you can get yourself about 100 miles of TRON lightcycling. Plus, the motor is no joke and can reach a top speed at 100 mph. But wait!! get this… they are trying to make it street legal and I am going to attempt to win the lottery so I can own one.

Real-time facial tracking and substitution is the perfect creepy thing for ChatRoulette

It kind of looks like a combination of those suits from A Scanner Darkly and way too many shrooms. But just like it says on the tin, the software tracks your face and its features in real time, overlaying someone else’s face on yours. Spooky.

Meet the woman with the world’s largest natural afro

36 year old Aevin Douglas has the world’s largest natural afro, as certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. Hell yeah… I love natural hairstyles on black women. Either afro or really short to the scalp or braids. Not really a fan of the gooped down, slicked down, burnt up straightened look.

PumpTire, the self-inflating bicycle tire will make sure you never have to pump up ever again

For those of you who might be cyclists, you know that just as with any other tire, keeping proper tire pressure is important, and periodically, tires need to be pumped up. However the PumpTire is an innovative design that uses atmospheric air and the natural motion of compression from a moving tire to constantly provide a steady stream of air into the tire so that you never have to use a pump.

If you can, watch the first trailer for the Battleship movie

Yes, the one based on the board game. And yes it has Liam Neeson, but after that, I have no idea. It appears that the actual Battleship part of the movie might be something like the alien space boats trap the American fleet in a radar-killing bubble, where Liam Neeson is forced to just shoot at random coordinates over the horizon to defeat them.

But after that faux sappy feel-good WWII movie first half, when I saw the Japanese Imperial flags, I was really hoping it would be Liam Neeson vs. a crazy, cackling “Jap” commander who screams in close up “OOH NOOO YOU SUNK MAH BATTERSHIP!”
